About Library

Dr A.P.J Abdul Kalam Central Library

The TBAK College Library has emerged as a Knowledge Resource Centre mainly catering to the information needs of the Faculty, Research Scholars and Students. Library is one of the most vibrant learning units on our campus.

The college library was established in the year 1988 with just 600 books to its credit. Now it has about 30,174 books and more than 212 periodicals including National & International Journals. The library has innovative infrastructure facilities like AUTOLIB software with modern technology such as DSpace, Wi-Fi connections, and the library system includes central and departmental libraries.

Each Department has its own compact library in which relevant books are kept to cater to the immediate reference needs of faculty members and students.

Providing a student-centered learning environment by exploring and implementing innovative technologies and services to deliver information and scholarly resources conveniently to strengthen the quality of teaching and research through library services.

Mission

To develop, organize and provide access to and preserve materials to meet the needs of present and future generations of students and scholars. To incorporate the latest technology and adopt a user-friendly approach towards students and faculty to make the library "a happening place."

  • Open access system is followed throughout the library
  • Library hours are allotted for students during working hours
  • Alumnae, mothers of Pearl Montessori School students, teachers of local schools, community college staff and housewives of Kilakarai can use the library after college working hours
  • Donations of manuscripts, books and journals are accepted where useful to students
  • Two tokens issued per student for book transactions

Digital Library

E-Library, configuration & services

The E-Library consists of 70 terminals provided with internet facility, housed in a centrally air-conditioned hall. An OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) has been created and is also made available via LAN across the campus.

Promotes resource sharing among libraries through a network of libraries. Our college has access to 2,90,00,000+ books, 40,000+ journals, 5,000+ full text e-journals, and 1,00,000+ theses/dissertations.
N-LIST
A component of the e-ShodhSindhu consortium, jointly executed by the UGC-INFONET Digital Library Consortium, giving access to 6,000+ journals, 1,64,300+ e-books, and 6,00,000 e-books through NDL.

Wide range of online collections — newspapers, magazines, graphic novels, academic journals, research publications and novels by award-winning authors.

Collections

Library books, references & general texts

The college management and members of the library committee play a vital role in building the library collection. Selection and acquisition of books are based on the syllabi prescribed for the various courses conducted at the college.

Reference Books: 4,554 titles — dictionaries, encyclopedias, etc., consulted only within the library and issued overnight.

General / Textbooks: The largest collection in the library, covering professional reading, research and supplementary texts, issued for 15 days of home reading.
